What is screen resolution?
Screen resolution is the number of pixels a display shows, expressed as width × height (for example 1920 × 1080). The higher the resolution, the more content fits on screen and the sharper the image.
Why does my resolution not match my monitor?
Browsers work in CSS pixels. On high-density screens (Retina, phones and laptops with 125% or 150% scaling) each CSS pixel equals several physical pixels. That is why we also show the devicePixelRatio and the approximate physical resolution, which is the product of both.
What is the difference between screen resolution and window size?
Screen resolution is the total size of the monitor, while the window size (viewport) is only the space the web page has inside the browser, without toolbars or menus. It is the value used by responsive design media queries.
Most common screen resolutions
On computers: 1920 × 1080 (Full HD), 1366 × 768, 1536 × 864, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1440 (QHD) and 3840 × 2160 (4K). On phones, in CSS pixels, widths between 360 and 430 pixels are common.
